Farm Boy™ Holding Kingston Vendor Fair to Expand Local Product

35 local growers and processors meet with Farm Boy buyers today in Kingston.

January 15, 2014 – Ottawa – Farm Boy buyers will be meeting with 35 area producers and farmers today in an effort to expand its offering of locally grown and processed foods at its Kingston store. The addition of products from local growers and suppliers to the Farm Boy shelves is also expected to help grow the local food sector and assist local processors in expanding their markets.

“Our customers love to buy locally made food and discover new and unique products in our stores,” said Jeff York, Farm Boy CEO. “Our goal is to always provide the best fresh shopping experience for our customers and that includes offering great products made in our own communities.”

The Vendor Fair, sponsored by the Ministry of Agriculture and Food and Ministry of Rural Affairs, in partnership with the Kingston Economic Development Corporation, is taking place today starting at 8:30am at the Ambassador Hotel. It is open to media.

“Supporting local food helps our agri-food sector create jobs and strengthen our economy here in the Kingston area and across the province. Ontario’s local food initiatives will help make sure more people benefit from the good things that grow in Ontario,” said John Gerretson, MPP for Kingston and the Islands.

Vendors participating in today’s fair will showcase unique products including natural and organic produce and meat, artisanal foods made in small batches and fresh bakery and dairy items. Vendors include quality local herb growers, ice cream manufacturers, and farmstead cheese makers, to name a few.

“We’ve always worked closely with local suppliers that meet our customers’ high quality standards and pass the taste test,” said York. “Our strong local roots in the communities we serve have established Farm Boy as a destination for customers. We look forward to deepening our Kingston roots and working with this new slate of local vendors in the very near future.”

Farm Boy will announce which new vendors it has selected in the coming weeks.
