Hot Chocolate 7 Ways

‘Tis the season to sip back some sweet hot chocolate! Okay, we may not be hearing jingle bells quite yet, but we are starting to feel the frost. And in our books, that’s enough to warrant hot chocolate. Our Farm Boy™ Chocolate Truffle Hot Cocoa makes prepping a steamy mug of rich hot chocolate quick and simple. It’s made with decadent Dutch cocoa and natural cane sugar – AND it’s vegan, so plant-based and dairy-free customers rejoice! All you need to do is add 2 tbsp to ¾ cup of hot water, milk, or non-dairy beverage and stir until combined.

Here are 7 ways to make hot chocolate this winter using our Chocolate Truffle Hot Cocoa mix!

1. S’mores Hot Chocolate

Pick up some thick, homestyle vanilla marshmallows from our Bake Shop and toast them with a kitchen torch, over an open flame on a gas stove, or in the oven. Prepare your hot chocolate using your milk of choice or water, then top with your golden marshmallows while the drink is still plenty hot. Garnish with some graham cracker crumbs and serve with graham crackers for dunking!

2. Mocha Hot Chocolate

Add a shot of espresso or mix a tablespoon of our Farm Boy™ Organic Instant Coffee into your mug with your hot chocolate mix. Then add your hot milk or water and stir. Turn this into an adult-friendly evening treat by adding a splash of coffee liqueur or Irish cream.

3. Chocolate Chip Banana Bread Hot Chocolate

Our Banana Bread Caramel Sauce flaunts a deep salted caramel flavour with the perfect hint of banana. Prep your mug of hot cocoa and stir in a spoonful of the sauce. Add more to taste, then top with whip, caramel sauce, and mini chocolate chips!

4. Candy Cane or Quick Peppermint Hot Chocolate

We’re presenting two ways to achieve a minty hot chocolate. The candy cane version is best prepped on a stovetop to ensure your candy melts completely. The simple mint version just requires a mint tea sachet.

To prep your candy cane hot chocolate, start by crushing about a few large mint candy canes. You’ll want about 1-2 tsps of crushed cany per cup of hot cocoa you’re prepping. Simmer your water or milk in a pot on the stove. Add the proportionate amount of crushed candy and Farm Boy™ Chocolate Truffle Hot Cocoa to your liquid and continue to simmer until everything is melted and combined. Pour into your mug, top with whipped cream, and garnish with a candy cane stir stick.

For a quick and easy mint hot cocoa, steep some Farm Boy™ Organic Peppermint Herbal Tea in about half a cup of boiling water. Remove the bag and top with hot milk. Add in your hot cocoa mix and stir until smooth!

5. Eggnog Hot Chocolate

Our eggnog is a holiday season favourite! Instead of using milk, add your Chocolate Truffle Hot Cocoa mix to some simmered Farm Boy™ Organic Eggnog and stir to combine. Top with a thin layer of whipped cream (or omit if you prefer) and sprinkle with ground cinnamon or nutmeg. For a milder eggnog flavour, try prepping your mug of hot chocolate using half eggnog and half milk.

6. Hazelnut Hot Chocolate

Rim a mug with our Chocolate Hazelnut Spread. Prepare your hot chocolate in your mug, adding a spoonful of the spread into it while it’s still hot, and stir until completely mixed. Top with some whip and chocolate syrup and enjoy!

7. Mexican Hot Chocolate

Hot in more ways than one! If you’ve never tried a spicy chocolate combination, you’ve been missing out. Don’t be intimidated; it’s not all that spicy. A touch of chili pepper and fragrant cinnamon give the chocolate so much more depth and flavour.

In your mug, add your hot cocoa mix, about ½ tsp of cinnamon (or more to taste), a nice pinch of chilli powder, and a square of Farm Boy™ Dark Chocolate. Pour your hot, steamed milk or boiling water (or a mix of the two) over your ingredients and stir until your chocolate has melted and everything is blended.
