Apple and Pear Steel Cut Oats
Updated September 2025
Chef’s Tips:
* For creamier oats, substitute half of the water with Farm Boy™ Organic 3.25% Whole Milk.
* For a pretty presentation, save some of the sautéed fruit and use it as garnish.
* Instead of brown sugar, you may sweeten the oats with Farm Boy™ Pure Ontario Honey or minced Farm Boy™ Deglet Noor Dates.
Ingredients
- 1 Tbsp unsalted butter
- 1 Honeycrisp apple cored and cut into small cubes
- 1 ripe but firm Bartlett pear cored and cut into small cubes
- 2-4 Tbsp brown sugar or to taste
- ½ tsp Farm Boy™ Organic Ground Cinnamon divided, plus more for garnish
- 2/3 cup Farm Boy™ Organic Steel Cut Oats
- 1 Royal Gala apple unpeeled, cored, and grated
- 3 cups water
- pinch salt
- Farm Boy™ Almond Butter, Peanut Butter, or Cashew Butter to serve
- Farm Boy™ Organic Plain Greek Yogurt to serve
- Farm Boy™ Unsalted Double Dry Roasted Pecans chopped, for garnish
Directions
- In a medium skillet over medium heat, melt butter and add apple and pear along with 1 Tbsp brown sugar and ¼ tsp Farm Boy™ Organic Ground Cinnamon. Cook, stirring often, until apple and pear are soft, about 3-5 minutes. Remove from pan and reserve.
- Place Farm Boy™ Organic Steel Cut Oats in a medium saucepan along with grated apple, pinch of salt, remaining ¼ tsp Farm Boy™ Organic Ground Cinnamon, and water. Bring mixture to a slow simmer and cook, partially covered, until oats are tender, about 25 minutes. Stir every so often to make sure mixture does not stick.
- Once oats are tender, stir in the reserved apples and pears. Adjust sweetness to taste by adding some of the remaining brown sugar. Serve with a dollop of Farm Boy™ Almond Butter, Farm Boy™ Organic Plain Greek Yogurt, and a sprinkling of chopped Farm Boy™ Unsalted Double Dry Roasted Pecans, and a touch of Farm Boy™ Organic Ground Cinnamon.
