This may just be our new favourite Caramelized Onion Dip!

The key to this recipe is to cook the onions low and slow to bring out the sweetness due to caramelization. There is no way to rush this process, so if you’re going to spend the time doing this, may I suggest you make extra onions that you can use in other things like your favourite burger or grilled cheese sandwich? You will be glad you did!

Enjoy this dip with chips or veggies. It is just delicious!

Directions

  1. In large frying pan over medium heat, combine onions and oil.
  2. Stir in salt and sugar and reduce heat to low.
  3. Cook, stirring every so often, until onions are soft and deep golden brown, about 45 minutes.
  4. Remove pan from heat and let onions cool down for 15 minutes.
  5. In medium bowl, combine caramelized onions, sour cream, cream cheese, garlic flowers, chives and salt and pepper to taste.
  6. Stir well and refrigerate for 1-2 hours before serving with chips and veggies.
