Don’t be fooled – pumpkin season is not just for all things pumpkin spice! There are many mouthwatering sweet and savoury ways to enjoy pumpkins this time of year, whether you’re pro pumpkin spice or not.
Here are some products and recipes from Farm Boy that will surely get you into the pumpkin spirit!
1. Pie Pumpkins
Pie pumpkins tend to be smaller than carving pumpkins, but feel heavy for their size because of their thick flesh. Because their flesh is denser and less stringy than carving pumpkins, they’re a perfect pick for baking. Try removing the seeds and roasting to make pumpkin purée from scratch, which you can then use in baked goods, pasta dishes, and more!
2. Farm Boy™ Salted Dry Roasted Pumpkin Seeds
Pumpkin seeds and salt are the only ingredients in this all-natural snack! Use them to top your harvest salads, or add them to yogurt or your favourite autumn-inspired baked goods.
You can also roast your own pumpkin seeds using the leftover seeds from your carving pumpkins!
- Place your seeds in a colander and run under water to rinse, separating the seeds from the attached pumpkin bits.
- Boil pumpkin seeds in salted water for 10 min, drain, then pat dry. For every ½ cup of seeds, you’ll want about 2 cups of water and 1 Tbsp of salt (or more to taste).
- Set oven to 400 degrees F. Drizzle a large baking sheet in olive or avocado oil. Spread your seeds out in the pan, coating them in the oil, and season with a little more salt or with spices like smoked paprika, cumin, or chili powder before you roast them in the oven.
- Roast for 10-20 min (depending on seed size) or until golden brown, shaking them around in the pan once before finished.
P.S. You can eat the whole seed and shell if you like!
