spacer Orleans, Tenth Line - Service Supervisor, Full-time (Open availability)


The Service Supervisor is responsible for assisting the Department Manager in the day-to-day operations of the Service Department. The performance of the duties must ensure a quality service approach to all employees, customers and suppliers. All responsibilities must be performed in a manner consistent with the Farm Boy vision, mission, and the Farm Boy Way.

Major Responsibilities:

1. Supervise department activity ensuring that goals are properly communicated and attained
2. Provide superior customer service and deal effectively with customer complaints or concerns
3. Promote, by example, company policy (as communicated in meetings, policy and procedure manuals, employee handbooks, written directives, etc.) and ensure compliance
4. Assist the Service Department Manager in implementing Service procedures (e.g., cash handling, floats, change orders, tray balancing, returns and refunds, cheques, coupons, U.S. exchange, etc.)
5. Maintain required records
6. Assist Service Department Manager in payroll functions, on request
7. Supervise the point-of-sale equipment, correcting improper operations or system hang-ups
8. Report immediately any anomalies in pricing to the responsible Manager for correction
9. Ensure that the service area, including the store entrance and cashier’s room(s) are kept clean, organized and safe at all times
10. Ensure that cash counters are continuously cleaned and that shopping carts and baskets are returned to the designated area
11. Take responsibility for the duties of cashier
12. Perform opening and closing procedures for the Department
13. Assist, relieve, and train designated Service Department personnel as requested by the Service Department Manager
14. May be requested to undertake other related duties on a periodic basis

The following skill sets are required for this position:

  • Typically requires partial completion of a secondary program plus 1 to 2 years of progressively responsible experience in cashier related duties or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Superior customer service skills
  • Good organizational and interpersonal skills
  • High respect for confidentiality
  • Ability to learn manual and automated systems (i.e. computer, telephone, fax, etc.)
  • Ability to make sound decisions and to carry out initiatives to their completion
  • Excellent mathematical skill - accurate and attentive to detail
  • Good physical fitness
  • Ability to handle complaints and communicate calmly and professionally with upset or irrational people
  • Fluency in English and French shall be considered an asset
