Fresh Favourites: 5 For Friday

Happy weekend! Do you have any delicious plans? We’re thinking about a leafy harvest salad or a little bit of sushi – maybe to counteract all the hearty fall food! Hopefully we’ll have the time to try my hand at this gorgeous tarte tatin – something about the deep, coppery colour is so enticing!

Here are 5 of our favourite foodie links from around the web:

  • This caramelized onion tart is a SHOWSTOPPER. Imagine serving it with a quick, French-style dressed-lettuce salad. The perfect lunch.
  • We talked about honey earlier in the week in our Meet the Maker interview with our own wonderful honey producers. Have you ever tried making spicy honey? How easy and delicious! If you packaged it up in a pretty jar with a honey dipper, it would make a great homemade gift. I am imagining it drizzled on a slice of pizza with fior di latte and salty salami…mmm.
  • This incredible read about the vegans and vegetarians that turned into butchers was fascinating. Since reading, we can’t stop discussing it and wonder what you think about it:
  • Referring to themselves as ethical butchers, they have opened shops that offer meat from animals bred on grassland and pasture, with animal well-being, environmental conservation and less wasteful whole-animal butchery as their primary goals.

  • Do you look up the restaurant menu before you go out to eat? I sometimes take a cursory glance if I’m going out with anyone with food allergies, but usually I like to be surprised.
  • If you’re in the market for a new cookbook, here’s a roundup of the best fall releases of 2019. I loved Alison Roman’s first book and am looking forward to leafing through the second one, Nothing Fancy.
