Fresh Favourites: 5 For Friday

Have a wonderful weekend! Having dinner alone one night? Why not try this single-serve turkey meatloaf? It’s just so cute. And to follow? We had excellent luck whipping up a last-minute quick tofu pudding when company dropped by unexpectedly. Skeptical? So was I, but the silken, soft tofu is an excellent stand-in for cream and eggs, and is especially good when given the Mexican Chocolate treatment, a la Mark Bittman. Pure decadence – and the kids gobbled it up too.

Here are a few of our favourite foodie links from around the web:

  • This uproarious Twitter thread about EXCITING salads had us cheering and laughing out loud! We are all for an exciting salad here at Farm Boy – and guess what? We have all of these things – herbs, feta, spice! – in store. Get excited and make a big ol’ salad this weekend. One surefire way to #eatcolourfully
  • An illustrated guide to dinner etiquette. Do you follow these rules? What about your kids? I wonder if many of our table manners are becoming extinct. How about phones at the dinner table? That’s one I just can’t abide.

  • This garlic broth is a staple in my kitchen at this time of year. It couldn’t be easier. You can get away with 4 ingredients, 2 of which are WATER and SALT. Although I would recommend adding some herbs and using a particularly good olive oil – how about one of our new Extra Virgin Olive Oils – choose from Greek, Portuguese, or Spanish. You can’t go wrong! Leftover broth? Cook rice or noodles in it, steam vegetables in a shallow puddle of it with some grated ginger, or just *sip* until you feel like a million bucks and well-prepared against the weather and germs out there. Garlic forever!
