It’s official: local fresh food favourite to open in CF Rideau Centre
Ottawa, ON (September 15, 2017) – Continuing its Ontario expansion, Farm Boy will soon bring its wholesome fresh market concept to downtown Ottawa, creating 120 new jobs and helping time-pressed shoppers quickly get their fresh food fix.
After much speculation about a Farm Boy opening in the CF Rideau Centre, company co-CEO Jeff York says he is pleased to officially announce plans for the new location. At roughly 8,000 square feet, the new store will showcase Farm Boy fresh favourites to downtown dwellers and mall visitors. It is slated to open late fall.
Located at the entrance on Rideau Street at Sussex Drive, the bright, welcoming store will feature the chain’s famed friendly service, farm-fresh produce and convenient grab-and-go meals, plus several new made-to-order options. “We work hard each day to deliver our customers a world-class, fresh shopping experience,” says York. “After launching our first fresh urban concept store in Ottawa’s Westboro neighbourhood last year, we received many requests from residents in the city’s downtown core to open a similar Farm Boy in their area.”
The new smaller footprint, urban Farm Boy store will be brimming with hundreds of Ontario-made goods, artisanal cheeses, naturally aged, premium meats and a high-quality mix of natural, organic, and local foods, all set against a warm backdrop of natural finishes, such as brick and reclaimed wood.
Customer favourites and trendy additions to Farm Boy’s private label line will feature prominently in the new location. They include everything from dressings and dips to small-batch cheddar, as well as savoury and sweet treats like double-roasted, chocolate-covered almonds added to the Farm Boy line up early this year.
In keeping with the company’s signature fresh factor, the Farm Boy™ Kitchen at the CF Rideau Centre will have a rotating menu of chef-inspired breakfast, lunch and dinner options made from scratch and available at the 56-foot salad and hot bar. And, unique to this location, a new flat-top grill located at the front of the store will serve innovative, pop-up style gourmet food, hot and ready to take home or enjoy in the cozy store eating area.
“The investments in the CF Rideau Centre have greatly contributed to the new flavour along the main thoroughfare of Rideau Street,” says Mathieu Fleury, city councillor of the Rideau-Vanier ward and a frequent customer of the chain. “We are ecstatic to see the new Farm Boy location a few metres away from Rideau Street’s future light rail transit station. The arrival of Farm Boy will support a strong food retail mix in and around the area, including the ByWard Market.”
CF Rideau Centre general manager Cindy VanBuskirk adds, “Farm Boy is a highly regarded local supermarket with its roots in Eastern Ontario and we are delighted to introduce its first urban shopping centre location to Ottawa at CF Rideau Centre.”
